902LA — About

About

902LA is an editorial music publication built around a specific premise: that the most interesting music being made, and the most interesting stories behind the music that already exists, live in a space the recommendation engines have not found yet — or have found and misrepresented.

We write long-form features, discovery essays, and cultural criticism. We use real data — Last.fm listener counts, streaming figures, YouTube analytics — as evidence, not decoration. When a song has 1.9 billion streams and the artist who recorded it has 33,000 followers of her own, that gap is a story. When a songwriter co-writes two of the defining tracks of a decade and has 1,162 people who associate his name with music, that gap is also a story. These numbers are not metrics. They are testimony.

We are not interested in new releases for their own sake, in publicity-driven profiles, or in repeating what the press releases say. We are interested in the architecture behind the work.

The name. 902 is an area code. LA is Los Angeles.

Editorial structure
902LA is published by TRM Inc, which also manages Gabrielle Roman, Ramsey,
Warren Cuccurullo, and Clive Kennedy. When 902LA covers managed artists,
artists do not approve or review copy before publication. Our editorial
positions — including criticism, curation, and placement decisions —
are independent of management relationships.
